Welcome

Leather chemicals manufacturer Royal Smit & Zoon has published its Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) report for 2022, highlighting the company’s environmental and social performance. The report is describing the company’s challenges for the future and the progress it is making towards its mission ‘to create a socially and environmentally sustainable leather supply chain, together’. It is based on our ESG Roadmap 2025 commitments and demonstrates how we continue to dedicate strong efforts towards our long-term goals. The Report covers the topics most important to our stakeholders with some specific highlights.

ESG Landscape

All the elements that add up to our ESG report can be aggregated and condensed into this one motto: Creating Sustainable Leather Together. In everything we do, in our R&D, in our production facilities, in our relations within and outside the industry, in our educational programs, and in the initiatives, we support, we feel responsible for the future of leather.

Our Strategy

The heart of our strategy is creating sustainable leather together, keeping in mind the continuity of our family-owned company, building on its rich history since 1821. This context of ‘taking care of the next generation’ is not only relevant in the family setting, but it is also something that affects our customers, industry partners, and other stakeholders.

Achievements

“In 2022, we made progress in some important projects: We were proud to maintain the EcoVadis Gold rating, next to achieving ISO certification for all our production and logistics sites. We maintained and expanded our portfolio of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) level 3 certified products and implemented the first step of our multi-year training program on the Employee Code of Conduct. Strong efforts were dedicated to several education and community involvement initiatives, demonstrating our thought leadership. With our profound belief in the ‘Power of Partnerships’, we continued our involvement in key industry networks and organizations, including Leather Working Group, Sustainable Leather Foundation, ZDHC, and Leather Naturally. A fully sustainable leather value chain can only be achieved through collaboration and with the support of all stakeholders.”
