Celebrating 200 Years
On May 8, 1821, Albert Smit put aside his captain’s cap and settled with a newly founded company A. Smit in Amsterdam. The year 2021 symbolized the start of the celebration of this amazing milestone and the year 2022 is marked as the closure of this epic celebration.
On April 8, Royal Smit & Zoon invited their most important stakeholders for a jubilee dinner at The Maritime Museum in Amsterdam. Two hundred and twenty guests from all over the world witnessed an evening full of entertainment, festivity, passion, and above all, an evening with a clear message. They were treated to a dazzling evening with inspirational speeches from Marc Smit (owner of Royal Smit & Zoon), André Kuipers (Dutch physician and ESA astronaut), Christine Boland (trend/time analyst), and Hans van Haarst (at the time CEO of Royal Smit & Zoon). The speakers of the evening gave a journey through the four pillars that are so important to Royal Smit & Zoon: legacy, sustainability, vision, and relationships.
Jubilee dinner at The Maritime Museum, Amsterdam
The company’s legacy represents the foundation of Royal Smit & Zoon; our common history makes us realize what needs to be done to remain relevant in the future. Creating a socially and environmentally sustainable leather value chain is the goal we are working toward together. Our vision is that this can only be done in collaboration with other stakeholders. Together is key; we cherish our relationships.
Together is key
Our core mission remains the same as in 1821: to create value for customers, shareholders, employees, and society through the product and process innovations we design and develop. Celebrating our milestones with clients, business partners, and other stakeholders - like we did during our 200th anniversary year and will continue to do in years to come - contributes to continuing our road to sustainable innovation.
